Design Challenges
A series of monthly briefs designed to stretch creative limits and try out new mediums & methods.
Brief 01 - Packaging Design
Design a new sleeve for an existing book cover that you think could be improved.
The Concept: I wanted to give this book the 70’s feel that I thought was lacking in the existing cover. I did this by adding grain texture, a brown colour palette, and a retro font. I also wanted to experiment with form, shape, and negative space to create visual interest while tying in related themes found in the book.

Brief 02 - Unusable Product
A spoon with a hole in the middle, a floppy skateboard, a fuzzy plate. Create an item that isn’t just unusable, it’s infuriating to use.
The Concept: A cheese grater that is painful to hold. The worst part? The grated cheese has nowhere to go but inside the contraption, leaving you bleeding and cheeseless. Ouch.
Brief 03 - Poster
Create a poster for an 80’s movie.
The Concept: Labyrinth was a fixture of my childhood nightmares, so it’s only fair that I chose this iconic movie for this challenge. It’s complete with iconic motifs from the movie such as the crystal ball and maze, but I love the texture, colour and pop art elements the most.
Brief 04 - Album Art
Create album art for band - real or fake.
The Concept: I chose to do The XX for this challenge, because the album art for their first release felt like a blank canvas that I could do so much with (not to mention their music is chef’s kiss). I created 3D album art for three singles, with each artwork specific to the title and vibe of the song.
